Details

UPDATE: Unfortunatelly one of our speakers, Srivalsan have Covid-19 symptoms, so he can not present today. We will have the remaining great presentations and move the socializing part forward. See you in some hours.
NOTE: This time we will not serve pizza or other food, but compensate with a bar. Hungry Kubenauts can get food from Cafe Kappeli on their own expense.

Welcome to our next onsite event: Cloud native data management, storage and analytics. Let's talk Kubernetes and CNCF tech trends, tips and tricks, and hear user stories in the Kappelin Kellari!

On Thursday (Dec 51) at 6 pm, the event will happen in Kappelin Kellari, what is accessible from the side of Kaapeli (Eteläesplanadi 1). Signing up for the event gets you a seat at the onsite event. We are doing everytihing to stream the event on YouTube, but the lack of stable network connection and our streaming devices might prevent us from doing so.

AGENDA:
18:00 - Doors open

18:15 - CNCF and Veeam/Kasten welcome notes by Annie Talvasto and Kim Aaltonen

18:30 - Moving Cloud Native applications across clouds and Kubernetes clusters for backup, disaster recovery and kicks. Presenting kubestr, kanister and kopia from Kasten by Markku Wallgren and Kim Aaltonen
Backing up Cloud Native applications can be a complicated effort if persistent data is involved. The most widely used and feature rich application mobility solution for Cloud Native applications which implements backup and disaster recover use cases is built using open source projects by Kasten and Veeam. Together kubestr, kanister and kopia make up a strong cloud native solution to move applications and data across clusters and clouds. Demonstration covers the tech and a demo to understand the Datalounges use case with off-the cloud S3 -storage.

19:00 - 19:20 - Socializing part I

19:20 - Cloud Native distributed storage for Kubernetes. Using Longhorn as a production back-end for micro services by Oskari Koivisto and Kim Aaltonen
Replicated, feature rich open source storage has been a challenge for Kubernetes operations. Longhorn (longhorn.io) provides a 100% open source option for cloud native distributed block storage with a strong feature set. Deployed as containerized microservices, Longhorn implements enterprise level features such as recurring snapshots and disaster recovery volumes. In this presentation we discuss the Longhorn project, peek at the technology, look at a production use case at Datalounges and check the demo.

19:50 - After-event networking

Note that the event will accommodate local guidelines on Covid-19, and the event will be organized with attendee well being and safety in mind. If you are displaying signs/symptoms of Covid-19 (these typically include fever, cough, and shortness of breath), please stay home!

Don't forget we have a Swag table!
You can bring your company's or favorite project's swag there for exchange within the group ;)

Veeam/Kasten provides the food and venue for the evening, thanks!
Let's have a fun evening and meet in Helsinki in Kappelin Kellari!
