Cloud Native Sustainability Bangalore Meetup

Details
Cloud Sustainability Week is a pioneering initiative that brings together technology enthusiasts, and industry leaders to explore the intersection of cloud computing and sustainability. This event is designed to foster a deeper understanding of how cloud technologies can be harnessed to drive sustainable practices and mitigate environmental impacts. Participants can look forward to a series of engaging discussions, and interactive sessions led by experts in the field, covering topics such as energy-efficient data centers, green cloud solutions, and the role of AI and machine learning in optimizing resource consumption. Join us as we embark on a journey towards a greener, more sustainable cloud ecosystem.
Agenda:
1:30 PM - 1:45 PM - Welcome/Registration
1:45 PM - 2:10 PM - Introduction to CNCF & Environmental Sustainability initiatives ( 15-20 min) - Nancy Chauhan
Nancy Chauhan is CNCF ambassador and runs the Women in Cloud-native community in her free time.
Session Description - Get to know about CNCF and Cloud Native Sustainability Week, to understand the mission and objectives of TAG Environmental Sustainability. Nancy will also shine a light on recent initiatives and emphasize the significance of environmental sustainability in today's world. She will also explain how we can contribute as an individual to projects
02:10 PM - 02:35 PM - Green Tech: Beyond the renewable energy integration (30 min) - Sancheeta Kaushal
Sancheeta Kaushal, a leader with a passion for team building and problem-solving.
Session Description - As we move towards greener tech, switching to renewable energy sources is just a start. Why? Because today IT sector is responsible for ~2% of global carbon emissions, equivalent to the aviation industry's emissions. It show that we need more action to drive sustainability in tech. While there are multiple things that can be done, the talk will focus on energy-efficient algorithms and better cloud resource utilisation.
02:40 PM - 03:05 PM - Sustainable Computing from Code to containers - the new KRA for developers and SREs - Vinay Rajagopal
Session Description -How can you translate the idea of sustainability into reality? How a 3 staged approach can help organisations. How developers, operations & platform teams can build a realistic sustainability computing initiative from code to containers using opensource technologies across hybrid cloud, platform and applications ?.Know your responsible KRA in the new era of green software & green ops. Build a Greener World and play your part!
03:05 PM - 03:15 PM - Break
03:15 PM - 03:40 PM - Strategies for Thriving in the Cloud: Sustainability and Scalability in a Changing Macroeconomic Environment - Sandeep Raghuwanshi
Session Description - In a world where cloud computing has become the backbone of modern enterprises, managing cloud costs is more critical than ever. However, cost optimization shouldn't come at the expense of scaling for business needs. This topic delves into innovative strategies that strike the perfect balance between sustainability and scalability.
03:40 PM - 04:00 PM - Tea/Snacks
Track 2:
04:00 PM - 04:30 PM - Container Internals | Building Your Own Docker - Pratham K
In this talk, we will talk briefly about a high level overview of the
various components involved in making up Docker such as runc and
containerd, as well as dive a bit into how they work internally,
learning about APIs like namespaces and cgroups by going over the
implementation of a small container runtime from scratch. We will also
cover misc. topics like bridged networking between the host and
container and the OCI image and runtime specs.
04:30 PM - 05:00 PM - Our journey from 500 backend servers to 3500 backend servers - Ajay
How we moved from vms to kubernetes, challenges that we faced and
the steps we took to overcome them.
05:00PM - 05:30 PM - Secure your kubernetes cluster with eBPF - Bala Vignesh
This talk will provide an overview of eBPF and demonstrate practical examples of enhancing Kubernetes security with eBPF programs for system call tracing, restricting privileged containers, network policy enforcement, and more. The goal is to show how eBPF can help lock down Kubernetes clusters and prevent breaches.
