Talk #2

Friendly Deploys for Kubernetes Apps by Katrina Verey, Shopify

At Shopify, we're building a new internal app platform based on Kubernetes. Already, developers across the company are deploying dozens of apps to it throughout the day. Although Kubernetes' declarative, asynchronous deployment model is awesome in many respects, it makes it tricky to tell these developers what they really want to know: Did my changes roll out successfully? Are they doomed to failure? If they're doomed, what is going wrong? To answer these questions, we built kubernetes-deploy, an open-source Ruby gem that can be used on its own or integrated with Shopify's continuous delivery platform, Shipit. In this talk, I'll explain why we built it, how it works, and why you might want to take advantage of it for your own Kubernetes projects.
