Kubernetes Slovenia Meetup Winter 2025

Details

Exciting Updates from the Kubernetes Slovenia Community

As we step into the New Year, we’re thrilled to share some big news for the Kubernetes Slovenia community.

With the organizing committee growing, we’ve decided to increase the frequency of Kubernetes Slovenia Meetups from two to three per year. 🎉

But that’s not all – we’re also taking the show on the road! To better accommodate our diverse community, we’ll be hosting Meetups at various locations across Slovenia and bringing Kubernetes closer to you.

What’s next?

Our first Meetup of the year will take place on January 22nd at Sportradar, Ljubljana.

Here’s what we’ve planned for the evening:

5:00 PM: Finding the venue (no biggy, we’ve got directions)

5:15 PM: Efficiency in Motion: Practical Tips for Autoscaling in Kubernetes (live presentation)

In this talk, Yurii Kyrychynskyi (Engineering Manager @kiwi.com) will share tips and tools to boost Kubernetes autoscaling.
At [Kiwi.com](http://kiwi.com/), the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is extensively leveraged, and most of the infrastructure runs in GKE.
Yurii will describe the scaling problems [Kiwi.com](http://kiwi.com/) encountered and how tools such as KEDA and Descheduler helped to overcome them. These tools played pivotal roles in improving elasticity, minimizing costs, and enhancing the overall performance of [Kiwi.com](http://kiwi.com/)’s Kubernetes deployments.

6:00 PM: Lightning Talks (10–15 min each + Q&A):
Scaling a Dummy Application with KEDA: A Quick Demonstration (online presentation)
This demonstration by Luka Page (Lead Devops Engineer at Sportradar) provides a insights on using Kubernetes Event-driven Autoscaling (KEDA) to dynamically scale a dummy application based on incoming traffic requests. The session covers using KEDA to monitor traffic metrics, and demonstrating how KEDA scales the application pods in real-time as traffic increases or decreases. The demonstration highlights the efficiency and simplicity of KEDA in managing workloads in Kubernetes environments.

Supercharge your HPA with custom metrics on GKE (live presentation)
In this quick talk, Tilen Kavčič (Senior Software Engineer at Outfit7) will present how we achieve low latency data streaming into Bigquery using GKE and custom metrics HPA.

Leveraging k8s & KEDA in different data processing architectures (live presentation)
Join us for an insightful lightning talk with Martin Bergamasco, (DevOps Solutions Architect at Skyscrapers) as he demonstrates architectural patterns for processing data at scale. Discover how to leverage Kubernetes and KEDA’s built-in scalers and scaling triggers to optimize your systems and drive efficiency in your data workflows.

From 7:00 PM on: Networking time. Mingle with fellow Kubernetes enthusiasts over food and drinks.

The presentations will be in English, and you can join us live at Sportradar or tune in online via stream (link, starting at 5:15 PM). All the presentations are appropriate for mid-senior level.

Note: Seats at the venue are limited, so grab your free ticket here.

Looking ahead:
Our next Meetup will take place in in the spring, and we’d love for you to be part of it. Whether you’d like to present (long talk or lightning talk) or host at your venue, get in touch with one of Meetup organizers. Let’s make Kubernetes Slovenia bigger and better together.
Again, you are kindly welcome to join our LinkedIn group as well.

Thank you for being part of our amazing community. We can’t wait to see you on January 22nd.
