Winter Backpacking Trip 4.0, Algonquin Park, Complete Inner Loop
Hosted by The KW Backcountry Travel Meetup
Details
Leave Algonquin Park's Western Uplands Backpacking Trail parking lot, 8 am, Saturday, Feb. 19. Hike for three days counter clockwise around the inner loop trail. Return Monday afternoon, Feb. 21, all pumped as one of a handful to ace the inner trail mid winter 2011.
Winter Backpacking Trip 2.0, Maggie Lake, went up the western side of the loop. Trip 3.0, Eu Lake, went up the eastern side of the loop. Thanks to a three day weekend, 4.0 adds a northern section completing the loop. Thanks to a recent freeze thaw cycle, the trail will present a good variety of footings; from packed down solid, to knee high untrammeled, possibly even a meltwater creek to forge with boots in hand and long johns rolled up high. Yeehaw!
Thanks to an 11 year solar storm cycle, NASA reports the first X-class solar flare in four years hits the planet Friday night. Translation, guaranteed northern lights. Thanks to the more mundane lunar cycle, it is full moon as well. Translation, two dreamscape nights. Magical!
Logistics:
Sign up and we'll figure out what everyone is comfortable with. Last time, tents in an undisclosed parking lot served as base camp Friday night. The previous two trips, Huntsville's EconoLodge served the same purpose. Although we normally carpool, how you get there is up to you. The train leaves the station at 8 am.
See previous meetups in this series regarding the required backcountry permits.
According to the weather network temperatures are back to seasonal normal in Huntsville and surrounds this weekend.
