Backpacking in Killarney Provincial Park
Details
Hey everyone,
how about a backpacking trip in Killarney Provincial Park this coming Canada Day weekend. With its blue lakes and quartzite ridges looking over them it is not surprising the park inspired the Group of Seven. What a better place to spend the holiday weekend.
Details:
The hike in is not short so it is important we get a morning start. Because the drive is over 6 hours from KW this means driving part of the way Thursday evening so we can get an earlier start Friday. I will email people who sign up with to coordinate hotel/camping details. If anyone has any suggestions I would be interested in hearing them.
There are 12 people total permitted on the two sites we have The park processing fee of $18 dollars will be split cost will be evenly between people who come. Additionally there is a $11 per person/per night fee for a camp-site. That makes for total $22 per person for the two nights. I will apply your reservation fee to the your camp-site expenses. Additionally people are expected to contribute to gas money and their hotel room.
This trip takes place in a largely wild park. We will be hiking on established trails but outside of that there are no services the backcountry and no way back to to road except to double back on route taken in. Participants are expected to fully self sufficient and comfortable backpacking.
I will work out the details of the car pools and gear sharing starting the Saturday prior to the trip (25th).
The itinerary has us hiking in Friday, the 1st, from the Carlyle Lake access point and hiking to Silver Lake where we will spend both nights. On the second day we can Climb Silver peak and explore the ridge line in the Hasen Township section of the park trail system. On the third day we will retrace our steps back to the road.
