You guessed it, this is actually an excuse for a short notice BBQ potluck on a gorgeous spring evening. Come on out, we'll have a fire and make big plans for the summer.

Location:

Columbia Lake is north of Columbia St. and east of Westmount in Waterloo. Think of it as the UW playing fields, Open Text world headquarters (245 Frank Tompa Drive) or the historic Brubacher House. Use the Brubacher House parking lot at the end of Frank Tompa Drive, next to the old farm silo.

If riding your bike take the Laurel Trail to Open Text. The fire pits are on the Trans Canada Trail down the hill by the lake.

Bring:

• its a potluck so bring a salad, chips, hot dogs, condiments, whatever to share

• firewood if you have some kicking around

• lawn chairs, portable picnic tables

• a portable BBQ as backup

• family, friends, Frisbees, dogs

• beverages, educated guess its a public non-alcohol area, be warned

• maps of hiking, canoeing or kayaking routes for discussion

• anything camping related, your full backpacking kit, tents, stoves, things to demonstrate to others interested in backcountry camping

• bring kayaks, canoes, and look cool. be warned its a mudpuddle of a lake

Wildcard:

Like the crown land we frequently camp on, the firepits can't be reserved in advance. There are only two along this stretch, another party could occupy them first. Picnic tables are scarce as well. So, if you have the time, bring a book, get there late afternoon and grab a fire pit, preferably the one closest to the Brubacher House parking lot.

Its short notice but we can do it, go team!
