Kayaking Franklin Island...because weekends are for paddling!
Details
Still recovering from my December rock climbing injuries, I'm ready to get my paddle wet again...and judging by the French River weekend waitlist...I'm not the only one itching to get out on the water.
So I'll welcome y'all to join me in exploring Franklin Island, or just hanging out and enjoying whatever weather Georgian Bay decides to show us.

My plan is to enjoy a casual 5-8 km paddle around the south western tip of Franklin and set up a base camp around mid day. From there, novice paddlers could explore the surrounding inlets and coves and advanced/intermediate paddlers could continue further north along the west side...or you could just read a book, get a tan, go for a swim, do yoga...
These pics are from a trip to Franklin Island I did last year.

In the event of stronger winds, we'd paddle along the lee side of Franklin to find a campsite at the north end. The east side has numerous cottages and boat traffic, but in bad weather, it's the only alternative for those without advanced skills and a dry suit. The weather can quickly change this jaunt from a novice to advanced level. Becoming wind bound on the west shore is always a risk.

I still have lots of physio ahead of me, so I won't be zipping out to the Minks, but I reserve the right to have participants tow me back to Snug if my rotator cuffs fail. Novice paddlers will still have to contend with a 2-3 km open water crossing from Snug Harbour to Henrietta Point.
Paddlers could arrange to stay at Killbear Provincial Park on Friday night or just drive up early Saturday morning. For rentals, contact Swift, White Squall, MEC or Adventure Guide. There is no cost for camping on Franklin Island, however there may be fees for parking at the harbour.
