Kayaking The Mink And McCoy Islands

All right folks the weather has turned from cold and bleak to the land of plenty. Meaning it's time to go out and see the wonderful things in the great out doors. The plan is as follows. leave work and the city lights behind us. Friday evening we'll meet at Killbear Provincial Park. 35 Killbear Park Road
Nobel. Camp the night. Wake up at 7:00 am. Have a quick breakfast.

Then off to 138 Snug Harbour Road, Carling, ON to start the journey. Park the cars and Leave the docks by 9:30 am.

Make our way out to Henrietta Point and begin to cross the bay to the Mink Islands. Upon our arrival on the other side we'll look for a suitable place for lunch. With full bellies we'll head north and bob and weave through the Mink Islands. Break at Elm Tree Island and assess the time situation.

If possible make the final push to the Big McCoy Island. set up camp and enjoy the starry night sky. fallowed by a modest camp fire.

Wake up at 8:00 8:30 begin to socialize again and have a solid breakfast. Break camp and load the kayaks. Head out and begin to cross the bay to the Oak Islands Have lunch. Then head down the coast of Franklin Island. If there's spare time jump off some rocks.

Finally make it in to Snug Harbour by 4 pm. Unload the kayaks load the cars and make for home.
Difficulty level: This is an intermediate trip. There is a large open crossing from Franklin Island to the Mink Islands. The minimum distance that must be traveled is 17 km per day. A total of 34 km. The water can get rough or could be like glass. If you've only kayaked once or twice this trip is probably not for you.
Logistics:
Kayak rental: $36 plus tax per day. White squall 53 East Carling Bay Rd.
Nobel, Ontario 705 342 5324 and Swift Outdoor Center Exit 149, Highway 400 North, Waubaushene, Ontario 705.538.0881 are the outfitters of choice.
Dock/ parking fee's $20 In and out
Shared gas: Every ones vehicle consumes fuel at different rates split the cost fairly.
Campsite at killbear: $52.25 per site optional. you don't have to camp at killbear Friday night. However you must be at the dock ready to launch when everyone else is ready.
