Wolf Lake/Paradise Lagoon Canoe Trip (5 day Intermediate and above)

For years I have want to go back. This is one of the most memorable trips of my life. The beauty of the lakes and the allure of Paradise Lagoon. The location is South Temagami North East of Wanapitei Lake (1 ½ hours northeast of Sudbury).

Thursday:
Meet and camp for the night at Grundy Lake Provincial Park.
Friday:
Leave the camp ground by 8:30am and make our way 2 hour north to Matagamasi Lake where we will unpack our cars and set out for adventure. (Parking #26 Jeffs maps Temagami). From there we will paddle about 13km (2 portages 700m total) to Wolf Lake passing thru Paradise Lagoon where we will stop for a swim in the Lagoon and numerous water falls.

Saturday:
Leaving Camp at a reasonable time, we will paddle north 13 km (8 portages 1.5 km total) to McMonnell Bay where we will camp on a beach.
Sunday:
We will start heading back south 10 km (0 portages) via Chiniguchi Lake and camp around Southeast bay. We will paddle by what is referred to as the Elephant (Highest point in the area). If desired and time/weather permit it can be worth climbing to admire the landscape from up high.

Monday:
In attempt to position ourselves for a reasonable exit we will paddle south 15 km (4 portages 1.4km total) back through scenic Wolf lake and Paradise Lagoon to camp on Wanapitei Lake. Time permitting there will be an opportunity to once again play in the waterfalls of Paradise Lagoon.

Tuesday:
After a good night sleep with will have a short paddle or 8 km back to the car where we will pack up for the long drive back home
Is the trip for me?
Do you long for adventure, natural beauty, and one last trip before the snow flys? (hopefully not the last though). This may be for you.
Participant will be screened by the host to ensure that participants are suited for the trip. Although the distances aren’t extreme, participants must have experience paddling distances of approx. 15 km (~6 hours) each day on a multi-day trip. They must also be capable of being self-sufficient in terms of meals and other backcountry skills and able to pack all belonging including food in a single backpack so that single carry portages are possible.

Cost:
Despite the Length of trip, the total cost beyond personal expenses should be reasonable as there are no parking for backcountry camp fee.
Grundy Camping for Thursday night. $60 per campsite + $13 for one car $20-30 per person
Gas - the round trip from KW is approximately 1200 km. ~ $120/car (gas will be divided evenly among all occupants)
Canoes – due to the length of the trip and the number of portages ultralight boats (less than 45 lb) are highly recommended but not required. Canoes weighing more than 55 are not appropriate for this trip. Rental cost very but it can be assuming that $50 per day X 5 day rental ~ $125 per person.
Gear: Gear sharing is encouraged and it is each participant's responsibility to ensure that they are covered in term of all the gear they require. Including but not limited to, tent, stove, fuel, food, canoe.
Trip deposit will be used to ensure that all participants are committed to attending and will go towards the Grundy lake camping with any excess being returned (depending on the number of participants the deposit may not cover the camp costs).
