McCrae Lake Spring Cleanup
Details
Hi everyone, spring has sprung. Join me and start your year getting McCrae Lake ready for an awesome summer (you can tell I am excited, can’t you). We also get to make new friends with the Five Winds Backcountry Ski Club who maintain the McCrae Lake trails as part of their trail network.
The conditions should be great: cool and no bugs. That being said, if it’s going to be a really rainy weekend, the trail clearing event may be cancelled. I will let you know Wednesday evening-Thursday morning if this happens.
This event requires a boat (canoe or kayak). The campsite and work sites are only accessible via boat (more than an hour’s paddle). Use the spreadsheet link below to make boat arrangements. Don't worry if you haven't worked this out until a couple weeks before the event.
Also, if you are planning on renting, you may have to get your boat Friday night in order to make it to the trail head on time Saturday morning.
The work will consist of general trail maintenance work. Clearing blow-downs, clipping back brush, and putting up trail markers, etc. The pace should be fairly easy going.
We will meet Saturday morning at 9:30 AM at the McCrae Lake parking lot. The link below shows that on a map.

If you sign up you must fill out the following spreadsheet to help the organizers…organize.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uEm3KUNfUVAoTbkYNPcfpv72OZb9ZnO_IvjVrPN9-YY/edit?usp=sharing
Also, although this event is free please be considerate and don’t sign up unless you are confident you will be attending. It would be a shame if eager volunteers were blocked from signing up by a no-show. Those who don’t fill in the spreadsheet and don’t respond to messages may be dropped.
Everyone should bring
- Something blaze orange. Unlikely but hunters could be in the area and it better safe than sorry.
- Work or garden gloves (dollar store type are fine).
If you have these please bring
- Hammer
- Long handled loppers
- Folding saw
I look forward to seeing you all at the lake!
Don't forget to make boat arrangements and to fill in the trip planning spreadsheet.
