The goal of this trip it to camp at Guskewau Lake and hopefully see the Stars. This is a relatively easy goal (6 km) and should serve and a great opportunity to dust off the winter camping gear in preparation for a great season as well as explore the area as desired. It should also be noted that this is a New Moon so weather permitting there could be some spectacular star Gazing.

I am considering camping a mew lake Friday evening please let me know if this interests you.

Carpool: It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a ride. I tend to wait til after the RSVP closes to finalize my car for efficiency sake.

Gear:

Goes without saying you'll need snowshoes for any hiking/backpacking in Algonquin Park in winter. Never mind weather forecasts, be prepared for whatever winter is capable of (weather forecasts fail). Be prepared for tenting at -25 C. You should also be prepared to melt snow with a stove that works at these temperature. I have seen many 3 season stoves fail in the cold, 4 season canisters is not enough. If you have any specific questions I love talking about winter camping so please ask.

Logistics:
You must update the following spreadsheet with your details. Failure to do may result in removal from the trip and a lost of your spot without notice.

Costs:
Permits are $12.43 per person. PayPal charges $1.05 which means I require $13.48 for a reservation.

Cars should split the fuel costs evenly among all of the passengers and drivers. You may also want some cash for food along the way.

Itinerary:
Saturday
10 AM Meet at Algonquin West Gate permit station to register.
10:20 AM, leave for Western Uplands
10:45 Start hike on trail
3-4 PM Make camp (Depending on Trial conditions we may make it to camp earlier but there are lots to explore)

Sunday
We return the way we came

Please note: Winter conditions increase risk for all participants. Persons who are under-prepared not only risk harming themselves but also risk harm others through the extra demands they place on them. For that reason, based on my judgement, I may ask those who I am concerned are not adequately prepared to not to come along at any time, even at the trailhead. If you are concerned about your level of preparation please consider the Introduction to winter course(class and trip). I also welcome questions, the earlier the better, and will do my best to help ensure you are adequately prepared. Let all make this a challenging, fun, and most importantly, safe trip.
