Georgian Bay Kayak Trip
Hosted by The KW Backcountry Travel Meetup
Details
The trip is now full. If you’re interested in attending, have your name on the Waitlist because if someone has to bail, that’s where I’ll look for a replacement.
Beautiful Georgian Bay waters, the warmth of August, and a flexible itinerary at a relaxed pace - this is the life! The difficulty level of the trip will vary with the wind and weather, but over a week-long trip, you can count on some of each.
People with their own boats may be at an advantage - rental outfitters are crazy busy this year and it may already be difficult to secure a rental kayak. Sea kayaks are required for this trip, 14’ being a minimum length, equipped with either a skeg or rudder. A group of 6 might be best for flexibility in finding campsites on crown land islands. I don’t like to post a trip this early, but anyone renting a kayak needs to get right on it.
We drive up Saturday, Aug 21, and launch Sunday morning from the area of French River Provincial Park. We’ll arrive at Snug Harbor the following Saturday, having paddled about 90km. Trip details and an organizing spreadsheet will be sent later by email.
Expenses for Saturday accommodations plus the shared costs of parking for the week will be around $90 each. Your RSVP puts you on the Waitlist. I’ll contact you to discuss your kayaking and camping experience and the kayak you intend to bring, and select a mix of experienced and perhaps not-so-experienced kayakers.
Your RSVP indicates your agreement with the terms of the Co-Participant Understanding at https://www.meetup.com/KW-Backcountry/messages/boards/thread/52807358
There's always someone to lend a hand on KWBT Meetups, but you are responsible for your own transportation, food, gear, personal safety and COVID risk. You can DM me with any questions through this Meetup app.
