The trip is now full. If you’re interested in attending, have your name on the Waitlist because if someone has to bail, that’s where I’ll look for a replacement.

This is a beginner-level trip, with short portages, and only a few hours of paddling each day. The Massasauga Provincial Park is just inside the southern limits of the Canadian Shield and provides access to Georgian Bay. The park is home to the five-lined skink, Ontario’s only lizard, and the Massasauga rattlesnake, Ontario’s only venomous snake - bonus points for anyone getting pics of both.

I’ll be arriving at the park around noon Wednesday and launching shortly thereafter - anyone arriving later in the day needs to have some navigation skills to make it to our campsite. On Thursday we paddle to our second campsite, and Friday we’re back to the cars by suppertime.

Canoe rentals will be in high demand this covid summer, so it would be good to secure rentals well in advance. Actually, I'd like to avoid the rental scene if possible - if you have a canoe, let me know - you'll have priority. Trip details and an organizing spreadsheet will be sent later by email. No pets on this trip, thanks.

Camping fees are $12 each, plus $13 to park each vehicle. Your RSVP puts you on the Waitlist. I'll contact you to discuss your experience level and change your RSVP to ‘Going’. If something comes up and you can’t attend, I'll arrange for a replacement. This event is not ‘first come, first served’ - I’ll ensure that canoe-camping newbies are paired with experienced paddlers.

Your RSVP indicates your agreement with the terms of the Co-Participant Understanding at https://www.meetup.com/KW-Backcountry/messages/boards/thread/52807358.

There's always someone to lend a hand on KWBT Meetups, but you are responsible for your own transportation, food, gear, personal safety and COVID risk. You can message me with any questions through this Meetup app.
