Backpacking the Pukaskwa National Park Coastal Trail
Hosted by The KW Backcountry Travel Meetup
Details
Here’s a backpacker’s bucketlist item - 60 km of wilderness hiking and camping. The Pukaskwa Coastal Trail follows the shoreline of Lake Superior - crossing streams and cobble beaches, with some scrambling and some inland hiking. The trail is rated as moderate to difficult - you’ll want to have had some multi-day backpacking experience.
Some hikers do this trip in 5-7 days. Parks Canada recommends 9 days. For me, 9 days works fine. We’ll drive up Aug 7, catch a shuttle ferry boat on the 8th to our trailhead, exit the trail on the 16th, and be home on the 17th.
The ferry boat is licensed for 6 passengers, so maximum six hikers it is. Trip details and an organizing spreadsheet will be sent later by email. No pets on this trip, thanks.
Plan on $250 each for ferry boat and park camping fees. Your RSVP puts you on the Waitlist and indicates your agreement with the terms of the Co-Participant Understanding. I’ll contact you to discuss your backpacking experience and your favourite book.
There's always someone to lend a hand on KWBT Meetup trips, but you are responsible for your own transportation, food, gear, personal safety and COVID risk. You can contact me with any questions through this Meetup app either in the comments section below or DM me.
