Backcountry Algonquin Canoe Trip
Hosted by The KW Backcountry Travel Meetup
Details
Update: the trip is now full. If you’re interested in attending, have your name on the Waitlist because if someone has to bail, that’s where I’ll look for a replacement.
Here's a nice little weekend trip. We meet Friday, either afternoon or after work, and paddle to our Whitefish Lake campsite - it's a 1-2 hour paddle, with no portages, and usually done in canoes, but kayaks would also be fine.
Saturday will be a short paddle to get us to where we can hike the Centennial Ridges Trail, a 4-5 hour hike, then paddling back to the campsite late afternoon.
Sunday will be a relaxed paddle back to the cars.
This is a beginner-level trip - an ideal trip for a backcountry newbie. Also ideally, I'd like to introduce this area to people who haven't done this trip before. Our maximum number is nine campers. The hike is not a difficult one, but you'll want to be in decent physical shape, and with good hiking footwear - there's a few scrambly sections on the trail.
Canoes can be rented from various outfitters in the local area, and they can also deliver to our launch point. Trip details and a spreadsheet will be sent later by email. No pets on this trip, thanks.
Camping fees are $35 each, including the firewood I'll be bringing and distributing amongst the boats, plus $14.13 to park each vehicle.
Upon posting this trip, I tell the Meetup software the trip is full, so your RSVP puts you on the Waitlist and indicates your agreement with the terms of the Co-Participant Understanding. I'll contact you to discuss your experience level and related info, and then I change your RSVP status to ‘Going’. This event is not ‘first come, first served’ - canoe-camping newbies will be paired with experienced paddlers.
There's always someone to lend a hand on KWBT Meetup trips, but you are responsible for your own transportation, food, gear, and personal safety. You can contact me with any questions through this Meetup app.
