Git is a great solution for versioning code and can also useful for storing and syncing text. But how can you use it to manage data in your Ruby projects?

You could call the git shell commands.

Or you can use Rugged (https://github.com/libgit2/rugged) which is a ruby wrapper around libgit2 (https://libgit2.github.com/), a re-usable pure C implementation of gits core methods.

I will work through some basic git scenarios and how to implement them in Rugged. Some of these implementations will also end up in the git_simple (https://github.com/acant/git_simple) gem that I am developing to try and make this easier for other projects.

(If you would like more background on libgit2 one of the maintainers was just interviewed on FLOSS weekly (https://twit.tv/shows/floss-weekly/episodes/453).)
