What we’re about
Group Description
Welcome to KW Languages Hub! This new group is all about creating a space for language enthusiasts who are looking to improve their skills from an intermediate or conversational level and beyond. Our biweekly meet-ups will be focused on creating a friendly and respectful environment where like-minded people can practice speaking through engaging group discussions and activities.
Whether you're a native speaker or an intermediate/advanced learner of one of the languages listed below, you're more than welcome to join us!
Please READ the information below carefully before requesting to join.
Joining Requirements & Guidelines:
This group is intended for individuals who already speak their target language at a minimum of an intermediate or conversational level—ideally CEFR B1 or higher. You should have a solid foundation and some confidence in speaking the language you're practicing.
Why the level requirement? We aim to create a supportive and inclusive space where everyone can contribute meaningfully to discussions. Having participants with similar skill levels helps ensure that all members get a fair chance to practice and learn together.
That said, if we see growing interest in beginner-level practice, we may consider organizing separate meet-ups for different proficiency levels in the future!
Please note: The purpose of this meet-up group is to bring together people who are genuinely interested in practicing and improving their language skills. If you're mainly interested in socializing and meeting new people in KW, there are plenty of fantastic meet-ups and Facebook groups already dedicated to that. So, this group might not be the best fit for those goals.
We learn languages for many reasons—travel, work, study, hobbies, or simply personal growth and cultural interest. Our goal is to offer a respectful, engaging space outside of the classroom where members can practice and connect with others who share a passion for languages. Feel free to bring any language-related questions or topics to the meet-ups!
Target Languages
- Italian
- Spanish
- French
- Tigrinya (based on interest)
- Other languages (based on interest)
Schedule & Location
Our schedule will be flexible and will depend on member interest. Meet-ups may take place weekly or biweekly, on weekdays after 5pm or weekends.
Locations will be public and accessible—such as libraries, coffee shops, or parks. With summer around the corner, we may also explore outdoor activities that include language practice (e.g. cultural events, festivals, or even salsa dancing!). However, most sessions will be held in quieter indoor settings that are more conducive to discussion and learning.
We’ll aim to rotate between languages so each gets dedicated time, though the frequency of meet-ups for each language may vary depending on interest. Every event will clearly indicate the language being practiced.
Interested in Co-Leading?
If you're passionate about language learning and want to help co-lead future meet-ups (no cost involved!), I’d love to hear from you. Please reach out to SY directly for more information!
