Some time ago, we reached out to the Build Stuff (http://buildstuff.com.ua/) conference, asking to borrow some of their foreign speakers for our November meetup. However, we weren't the only ones who did this, and as a result, the organizers of Kyiv English Programmers, Hackraft, and the ALT.NET meetup have joined forces with Build Stuff to bring you Build Stuff Encore!

This is a free event, which will be held on November 25th at 18:45 in the Congress Hall of Premier Hotel Rus (12 Hospitalnaya Street).

Registration for this event is on Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/build-stuff-encore-with-altnet-kyivep-hackraft-tickets-19398749181) (not our meetup page). Make sure you go there to register (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/build-stuff-encore-with-altnet-kyivep-hackraft-tickets-19398749181), as seats are limited and we don't want you to miss out!

We really hope you enjoy this event, learn a lot, and make some new friends :) We'll be back to our normal events in December.

Program:

18:45 - 19:25 - James Nugent - Abandon the software-consumer mentality

When faced with a software problem, many in our industry ask the question "What tool can I install to make this go away?". Often, a much more useful question is "How can I change the situation such that this problem doesn't exist in the first place?".

In this talk, we'll look at several case studies of the software consumer mentality combined with toxic marketing from tool vendors result in accidental complexity from operating system to web framework, and at what to focus on in order to avoid falling into such traps in our own work.

19:25 - 19:35 - Break

19:35 - 20:15 - Oren Eini - What does it take to be a good developer?

In this talk, Oren will speak about the difference between professional developers, good developers and mere people who understand the syntax of a programming language.

Based on all too much time spent trying to hire good people, this talk is going to focus on what qualities are missing from most of the candidates, and what can be done to improve that.

20:15 - 20:25 - Break

20:25 - 21:05 - Richard Minerich - Manipulating F# Data Trees in Fungible

Fungible is a new open source project from Bayard Rock for manipulating data in immutable fixed type F# trees by run time function injection into expression trees. In this talk you'll learn about how to use it, how it works, and some of the neat F# expression tree tricks I learned along the way.

21:05 - 22:00 - Beer & Pizza time
