Join Kyoto Comedy every Friday for our English Stand-Up Comedy Open Mic at Ki Bar in Pontocho — where comedians from Kyoto, Japan, and around the world try new jokes, test fresh material, and turn life in Japan, cultural differences, relationships, travel, and the wonderfully strange experience of living in Kyoto into comedy.
Expect local comedians, international performers, touring comics, occasional featured guests — and brave first-timers getting behind the microphone for the very first time.
Whether you’ve lived here for years or landed in Kyoto yesterday, come discover another side of the city — through stand-up comedy.

You don't need to be a comedian to join us!
The Friday Open Mic is a live comedy show for everyone. Grab a drink, meet some people, and watch comedians experiment with new material in one of Kyoto's most famous nightlife districts.
Open mics are unpredictable — and that's part of the fun.
You might see an experienced comedian working on a brand-new joke, a touring comic visiting Kyoto, or somebody performing stand-up for the very first time.
Bring your friends. Come alone. Locals and visitors are all welcome.
🎟 FREE ENTRY — Pay What You Feel
There is no fixed admission price. If you enjoy the show, you can support the performers and Kyoto Comedy with a contribution at the end.
🍺 One drink minimum.
Please purchase at least one drink to support Ki Bar.

The mic is open.
Experienced comedian? Come test new material.
Never performed stand-up before but always wanted to try? Prepare your 3 minutes and give it a shot.
We welcome comedians and aspiring performers from Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe and across Kansai, as well as traveling comedians visiting Japan.
### How to perform:
🎙 Apply in advance: kyotocomedy.com/for-comedians
⏱️ Sets are generally 3–5 minutes, depending on experience and the lineup.
🎥 If you have performed before, you can submit a video link with your application.
🆕 First time ever? That's okay. Let us know when you apply.
🚶 Two walk-on spots are reserved each Friday for people who decide they want to give stand-up a try on the night, subject to availability.
Come early, meet the other comedians, grab a drink and check in with the host before the show.
