Konnichiwa, mina-san!

I hope you all are surviving the possibly hottest summer in Kyoto! Although weโ€™ve got more than a month-long hottest period to go through alive, letโ€™s keep ourselves creative and enjoy our Japanese practice!

Hereโ€™s our August schedule.
Week 1, No event
Week 2, Saturday, the 9th (Stumptown/ Ace Hotel lobby)
Week 3, Saturday, the 16th (Stumptown/ Ace Hotel lobby)
Week 4, No event

Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
Goro, the organiser

โ€”*General Introduction (August 2025)โ€”
Welcome to our first event series, Kyoto Nihongo Club!

It's an almost-weekly, casual and practical conversation event for Japanese learners, those who want:

โ€“ To know how to introduce yourself in Japanese.
โ€“ To keep the small talk going in Japanese.
โ€“ To learn more natural Japanese pronunciation fluently.
โ€“ To use your Japanese vocabulary and idioms in the actual conversation.
โ€“ To make new friends with whom you can share tips for improving each other's Japanese skills. :)

We also welcome native Japanese speakers who want to join our international community. You can maintain or even polish your English skills by helping Japanese learners with grammar and understanding of Japanese culture and history.

All levels of Japanese and English speakers are welcome. We try to keep the conversation in Japanese. However, English is always our standard tool to complement your understanding/explanation of the Japanese language and culture, so don't feel any pressure on your language skills.

I dream of creating an international community where both new and local people in Kyoto feel comfortable being together. We all love learning about different cultures.

I only started to live in Kyoto last October, and it is my first time living in western Japan. So, whether you're a tourist or have just moved here, I'm pretty much the same as you.

So please join us, and let's give it a go. I'll try to schedule it for the weekends so you can easily find time.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all at the next event!

๐Ÿ“ข Notice: About Group Operating Costs and Donations

This Meetup group is hosted through Meetup.com, which charges a hosting fee of approximately 15,000 yen (about $100) every six months. Currently, this fee is covered half by our sister group in the Netherlands (which I originally started while living there), and the other half is paid by me personally.

Going forward, Iโ€™d like to make this group more sustainable by asking for your kind support through small voluntary donations from our Kyoto group participants.

The portion we need to cover on the Kyoto side is 7,500 yen per six months, which works out to about 1,250 yen per month. I plan to contribute 250 yen each month myself, so if the remaining 1,000 yen can be shared among participants, that would be a great help.

If we use a suggested donation of 200 yen per event, and assuming we meet twice a month with an average of 5 to 6 participants, we should be able to cover the full amount without any difficulty.

Weโ€™ll do a financial check twice a year โ€” on February 15 and August 15. Once the 7,500 yen goal has been met, we will stop requesting donations until the next check period, so please rest assured that you wonโ€™t be asked to contribute more than needed.

First-time participants are always welcome to join for free.

Donations can be made by cash, PayPay, or PayPal, so please feel free to choose whichever method is most convenient for you. Just let me know at the event if you'd like to contribute.

We are starting this donation system from this month (August 2025). If youโ€™re planning to join regularly, weโ€™d really appreciate your support!

Thank you so much for your warm support โ€” it really means a lot!

๐Ÿ“Œ Donation Summary
โ€“ Amount: 200 yen per event (except for the first-timers)
โ€“ Methods: Cash / PayPay / PayPal
โ€“ Timing: On the event day

*If youโ€™d like to donate via PayPal, please make sure to have an account ready in advance.
