A German in Kyoto – An Easy Introduction to the City

If this is your first time in Kyoto, this walk offers a calm and meaningful introduction to the city.
Together we’ll explore the Okazaki & Higashiyama district, an area that combines history, culture, nature, and everyday Kyoto life.
Stops include:

Okazaki Shrine
A historic martial arts hall from the Meiji Era
Heian Shrine & Grand Torii
Okazaki Park and surrounding cultural spots
a lesser-known site connected to German–Japanese history

The walk is designed to be easy, walkable, and well-paced, with time to ask questions and understand the context behind what you’re seeing.
Rather than overwhelming you with dates and names, I focus on stories, explanations, and comparisons that help you truly connect with Kyoto.

🕒 Approx. 2 hours
🚶 About 2.5 km
📍 Start: Okazaki Shrine
🏁 End: Heian-Jingū shrine Grand Torii (good transport access)
