Cantonese Parents Meetup #2

We had a really lovely first meetup!! It's been a few months so it's more than time for another hang! Join us for another afternoon at Vista Hermosa.

Bring your kids/SOs, or just yourself! Feel free to bring snacks to share and maybe a favorite book if you'd like to try to read to the kids in Cantonese!

Whether or not you're bringing your fam, please RSVP for just yourself to leave space for others to RSVP (we're capped by Meetup at 10 guests).

Intentions:

• Create a fun, friendly, and supportive community
• Improve each other's Cantonese by providing more opportunities to speak and learn - both for parents and kids
• Bond with other Cantonese-speaking parents (or non-Canto parents trying to learn) and share the joys and challenges of trying to raise Cantonese-speaking humans
• Normalize Cantonese for our kids by creating a place where other kids also speak Cantonese
• Promote Cantonese language and culture, and both surface and serve the Canto-speaking community scattered throughout LA
• Share tips and Canto resources

A bit about me and where this is coming from:
I'm Melissa - a Hong Kong girl living in Eagle Rock raising a daughter (now almost 17 months old) with a non-Chinese husband. I speak to her in Cantonese every day although not 100% of the time. She has some Canto words now so it's exciting and encouraging! But sometimes it still feels like an uphill battle. Despite being born and raised in HK, I feel the limits of my Cantonese even speaking to a baby :'(

So I'm interested in meeting other parents trying to instill some Canto language and culture in their homes - whether you are completely fluent and so are your kids, or speaking Cantonese to your child is more of an intention/hope than an actual reality :) Let's meet up and help bolster parenting in Cantonese!
