Sunday: Solstice Canyon Loop and Beach Day (3-4 miles)

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BELOW!
Solstice Canyon is one of the sweetest loops to hike in LA. The first half is shaded and low-key, the second half is sunny and steep with sweeping views. If we are lucky, we'll catch the waterfall in the middle! The hike has some challenging inclines, but is easy to navigate for a moderate hiker. We will probably hike the loop clockwise. AFTER the hike, we'll have a beach hang for anyone who is interested at Dan Blocker Beach across from the canyon. Bring a lunch or snacks to share, and a beach chair/blanket.

PARKING: PLAN EXTRA TIME TO FIGURE OUT PARKING! The main parking is at the trailhead, at "Solstice Canyon Education Shelter." You can also park in the small lot that is before that area, at the entrance to Solstice Canyon. However, both lots are usually full, so you might have to wait for a bit to park. Another option is just to park (legally) on PCH and walk (carefully) to the trailhead, which takes about 15-20 mins (1 mile). Make sure you park legally, because the Malibu police are ruthless and will ticket you if you do not follow parking regulations.

MEETING TIME: Meet at 9:30 AM at the trailhead. We will wait 15 minutes for latecomers and then head out on the trail. Since cell service is not reliable, we will not be able to wait for people who send last-minute messages.

BRING: There is limited shade, so bring a hat, sunblock, sunglasses, and AT LEAST 1.5 L of water. We will stop for photos and snacks, so bring snacks, granola bars, fruit, etc. whatever you need. If you want to hang at the beach afterwards, bring your beach/bathing gear in the trunk :)

SHOES: Wear sturdy sneakers or hiking boots. Flip flops for the beach!

DRESS: Athletic/ fitness gear according to the weather.
