Malveira da Serra – Guincho Coast – Aldeia de Juso (8.7 km / 120 m)

Hike Description:
For our first hike after the summer break, we'll keep things a little shorter while the weather is still hot.We'll start in Malveira da Serra and head towards the coast through the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. From there, we'll walk along the Atlantic coast around Praia do Abano towards Praia do Guincho, where we'll stop for a short packed-lunch break before heading inland. (there are a few benches in the shade, and toilets near the Guincho parking). On the way back, we'll pass Vila Romana de Casais Velhos and finish in Aldeia de Juso.
The route is approximately 8.7 km with 120 m of elevation gain and should take around 3 hours, depending on the pace, photo stops and our lunch break.
The current forecast for Sunday is hot, with temperatures reaching around 29–30°C and UV 7.
Expect rocky and uneven trails, some uphill and downhill sections, open coastal landscapes and plenty of ocean views. Much of the route is exposed to the sun, and some sections pass through spiky vegetation, so please come prepared.
What to bring:
- a hat and sunscreen
- 1.5 L of water
- comfortable hiking shoes
- a packed lunch/snack
- optionally, a lightweight long-sleeved layer for sun and vegetation protection
Meeting Time & Place:
We'll meet at Panisol, a bakery and café in Malveira da Serra, at 10:00.
We'll start walking at 10:10.Getting there by public transport from Lisbon
- 08:40 train from Cais do Sodré to Cascais → arrival 09:20
- 09:40 bus 1624 from Cascais Terminal towards Malveira da Serra
- Arrival in Malveira da Serra shortly before 10:00, very close to Panisol
Getting back: This is not a circular hike.
- We'll finish at the Estr. Malveira da Serra 1715 bus stop, where we can take bus 1624 back to Cascais.
- We'll aim for the 13:12 bus (with the 13:42 bus as a backup if we spend a little longer on the trail).
