Palmela Hike (13.5km/370m) - Castle, Windmills, and Countryside

Hike Description:
This hike explores the beautiful countryside around Palmela. We'll start on a gentle path on a ridge overlooking a valley with many historical windmills (including a traditional bakery!). We'll cross the valley and ascend a hill on the other side, getting some views towards Setubal, and end by enjoying the views from Palmela castle.

This hike is about 13.5km long with 370m of elevation gain.

Wear shoes with a good grip, bring at least 1.5L water, and snacks/lunch. There isn't anywhere to stop for food/drinks until the end of the hike, where there is a café either at the castle or by the bus stop. There is little shade for most of the hike but the weather for Saturday is cloudy in the morning/partly clearning in the afternoon and not too hot.

Meeting Time & Place:
We'll meet at Oriente bus station in Lisbon and take the bus to Palmela together. We'll take the 4710 bus departing at 9:30 AM, here's the exact location of the bus stop (22-C). We'll get off at the last stop - Palmela terminal. I recommend giving yourself some extra time to find the bus stop in Oriente since it only runs once an hour!

If you're coming by car or plan to meet us directly in Palmela - let me know in the comments so I can give you an exact meeting time and place. This is a circular hike so we'll end at the same spot we began.

To return, we can either take the 4710 bus back to Oriente or take the train back from Palmela station. All transportation is included in the 40€ Navegante pass.
