UX career reflections

Join us in person at ESO in Belfast (42 Fountain St, Belfast BT1 5EF)

Details:
Ladies That UX Belfast supports women in the UX industry through workshops, informal gatherings and projects. It is co-lead by MT McCann (ESO), Sam Nelson (Deloitte Digital) and Ciara Davey (LV).

Specific Event Details:
This in person event features fantastic speakers from the UX industry reflecting on their UX career journey. We have speakers at various stages of their professional careers reflecting on lessons learned and what they would do differently if they could go back in time.
There will food and refreshments on arrival at 6pm, so come on down and grab some before they go! The speakers will be kicking off at 6.30pm.
The speakers will give talks ranging from 10-20 minutes and then we will have a Q&A with all the speakers at the end of the presentations.

🗣 Speaker 1: Dani McCutcheon
Dani is an Interaction Design student currently on placement at ESO as a product designer. With a background in graphic design, fine art and tattooing. Returning to education as a mature student and finding purpose/passion within the world of UX.

Dani's talk: “Creating relationships to help champion UX design”
Looking at why relationships within our field are important to be able to advocate for our users. Delving into her personal experience so far as a placement student and finding confidence to ensure user centred designs are the benchmark of a successful product.

🗣 Speaker 2: Alan Lavery
Alan is a Senior User Experience Designer at Deloitte Digital with over a decade of industry experience. Over the years, he has worked on a variety of award winning digital products and services, from mobile apps to e-commerce websites.

Alan's talk: 'Fake it till you’re found out'
Imposter syndrome is something Alan has struggled with throughout his career, which he feels only gets worse as you 'move up' the career ladder. There will also be things in there like ‘advice for my younger self’ and what I’ve learnt coming up the career ladder
In his position now, he wants to be the mentor/person who wasn’t there for me when he first started. To be asked to speak in front of people, speak at UU, be invited to podcasts etc is something I never thought would be on my horizon as a designer

🗣 Speaker 3: Damien Green
Damien is Head of Design at Sugar Rush, with a real love for all things creative and user-centred. He has 15 years of experience under his belt, he's seen it all and knows exactly what it takes to make a digital experience truly amazing. Damien is all about collaboration and teamwork. Whether he is working with designers, product managers, engineers or marketeers, he's always looking to define problems and build captivating, engaging web and app experiences for all kinds of cool brands across the UK and Ireland.

Damien's talk: 'Mobile Made Easy
'
Some simple ideas on how to design and make mobile experiences better. I’ll chat about user psychology when using a mobile device, content and comprehension, a little little on ChatGPT and things I can teach my younger self
