Join us at Allstate for an evening where data and design collide.

Expect two vibrant talks and an interactive roundtable session where you help shape the conversation, and plenty of practical insights on using data in UX and Product Design.

All of this, of course, fuelled by pizza, beer, and good company.

Speaker 1: Speaker Robert Chapple - Product Owner

Robert M Chapple is a recovering archaeologist turned data visualisation practitioner, blending a deep appreciation for historical context with a passion for uncovering insights through visual storytelling.

With years of experience excavating the past, Robert now applies analytical rigor and creative design to make complex data accessible and engaging. His work bridges disciplines, bringing clarity and narrative to datasets in ways that resonate across academic, professional, and public audiences.

This talk explores how data is more than just numbers, it’s a story waiting to be told. The way we visualise data shapes how people interpret it, influencing what stands out, what’s overlooked, and ultimately, the decisions made.

We’ll look at how charts, graphs, and narratives can transform raw information into meaningful insights, while also considering the responsibility that comes with framing data.

The talk is less about technical tools and more about understanding the power of representation in shaping perception.

Speaker 2: Tara McAllister | Senior UX Designer | Rapid7
Telling the story of Cyber Security with Purpose

A self professed night owl Tara’s main specialist areas are cybersecurity and child safeguarding.

Passionate about creating tools that help people do their job better and make their day to day a little easier.

Currently focused on the Data Visualization Service, Tara’s crafting clear and simple dashboards and reports that make complex security data easier to understand and act upon.

Talk description:

How do we help users see how their cybersecurity program is performing? By distilling complex data into clear, meaningful visuals... that’ll be simple, right?

Tara will share how we help users tell the important story of their overall security posture and how to tune for the right audience via personas.

We’ll play a little “Graph Guess Who”, flexing our data visualisation brains to see what we as a collective would pick to bring user stories to life.
