Pathways series: Chapter 1 Transitioning into UX

Details

Hey, all we're back 🤩 and kicking off with a new series of events focusing on pathways through UX.

In this first event, we are delighted to be hearing from 3 group members who have recently transitioned into UX. We will have a short intro from each speaker followed by a group discussion.

We'll hear from them on why they wanted to shift to UX, how they went about it and learnings from their first roles.

This is equally relevant if you are figuring out how to transition into UX or have been working in UX for many years.

We'd love to hear from different perspectives and levels of experience in the group discussion at the end.

As ever we aim to create a safe space for discussions and foster meaningful connections.

Meet the speakers

Marissa Lewis-Peart
Marissa Lewis-Peart is a UX Consultant at Immersive Labs with a passion for how people experience brands.

Beginning her career as a Graphic Designer, specialising in Brand Design & Brand Strategy, Marissa pivoted to a career in Experience Design at the beginning of 2021 due to her interest in how people experience brands from a holistic and user-centred design perspective.
She now uses her interests in design, strategy and psychology to help shape the experience that people have with a brand, its products and services.

Joanne Harvey
Joanne Harvey is a UX/UI Designer at Agile Applications, developing software for Local Government.

Jo’s career began as a Graphic Designer in the printing industry. She battled her way to Senior Art Director at Ogilvy & Mather, Melbourne, Australia, before freelancing for many years. Jo returned home to the UK, in 2018 and decided to pursue a parallel career path away from the world of Branding and Advertising and into UX/UI. In need of a change, she took the opportunity in 2020 to study full-time and managed to land a job before graduating.

Hannah Simpson
Hannah is a UX designer and trainee UX team lead at Jisc.

Since graduating with a degree in illustration in 2012, she worked as an illustrator, artist and educator, as well as taking a few tangents into gardening, cooking and voluntary work. After having her first child in 2019 and reconsidering how work fitted life - she decided to retrain in UX, through self-study with the support of some brilliant mentors. User experience design combines her love of visual design, exploring problems, meeting people’s needs and working towards positive change.
