We are very excited to have Joe and Grant from The Understanding Group! Join us in-person or online (a Zoom link will be provided)!

Learn how to design apps and websites that anticipate and align with the purposes people have for them. We will introduce a research-backed method for seeing, modeling, and applying the intentions of people that we have used to aid in the design of over a dozen complex digital places.

Joe Elmendorf (Head of Consulting & Client Services) has been working with information spaces since 2009 and teaching professionals and university students since 2016. He leads the consulting practice at The Understanding Group where he strives to grow the next generation of IA practitioners and evolve novel, ad-hoc processes & methods into teachable, scalable practices.

Grant Carmichael (Principal Information Architect) is an Information Architect with The Understanding Group and a multi-disciplinary designer with over 30 years of experience. He has been involved in many community design and art organizations including Midwest UX, IxDA Grand Rapids, and SiTE:LAB, a nomadic art initiative creating temporary public projects and site-specific art installations in underutilized and unique spaces.
