Topic: Manipulative and Deceptive Patterns in UX
The talk will focus on research done in HCI academia about "dark patterns" to discuss manipulative and deceptive patterns in user experience design. The talk will aim to end with provocation on what can technology and design practitioners do to reduce (or stop) the propagation of this deception in everyday technological interactions.
Jon Bosworth, Staff Content Designer at Credit Karma
Topic: Designing for Cognitive Behaviors
We'll be identifying deceptive and assistive interaction patterns and exploring the ethical implications for professional designers and engineers. We’ll discuss deceptive patterns vs anti-patterns, and look at designs that employ cognitive behavioral patterns in actual product. We’ll also explore the impact of manipulating cognitive behaviors on your brand and discuss accountability when the deception is criminal.
