We’re thrilled to launch the 8th Annual Mermaid Capital of Texas Festival in May 2025, and what makes it even more extraordinary? We're celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Mermaid Society of Texas!
And here’s the best part: it’s all FREE and FAMILY-FRIENDLY, just in time to kick off summer in the Mermaid Capital of Texas!

With our big move from September to May, we’re diving headfirst into river season—when floating, swimming, and sunshine fun are in full swing! It’s the perfect time to spotlight what matters most: protecting our beautiful spring-fed river from litter and pollution.

The San Marcos River is the lifeblood of our city—and this festival is our chance to show the world what it means to be the Mermaid Capital of Texas. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, everyone has a role to play in protecting this natural treasure.

In a magical twist of fate, National Endangered Species Day, National River Clean-Up Day, and National Recycling Day all fall on May 17th—the same day as our iconic Mermaid Promenade! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment to raise awareness, spotlight endangered species, and inspire our community to take action.
