What we’re about
**THIS IS A GROUP FOR FEMALE IDENTIFIED PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE KIDS AND DO NOT WANT THEM. Please respect this our rights to a safe space as childfree women. If you have teenage or adult children, or are male identified, this group is not for you.**
Ladies With No Babies Inclusivity Statement:
We welcome trans women, genderqueer and non-binary individuals who most closely identify as women. If you feel you would belong here, welcome!
Is everyone around you having kids, left and right? Are you just not ready, don't have the "mom gene", or for other circumstances live a child-free life? This group is for you! Let's enjoy what San Diego has to offer. We don't have to worry about babysitters or the judgmental "you don't have/want kids???" Looks!
This group will be as good as its fabulous members, so please suggest outings and let's do this! If you have any ideas, please contact April and she'll be happy to make you an organizer. We have so many members, someone else will want to do what you're doing too!
This Meetup is currently free to join! To keep it open for everyone, please consider donating a few bucks via PayPal to SanDiegoLNB@gmail.com. All money collected goes into the care and feeding of this group.

Because of poor attendance and trying to clear my schedule a little, book clubs are moving to Mondays. We are also going to try to read more fiction and read nonfiction quarterly or so (or whenever the mood strikes us), instead of every other month. This book club will now meet on the first Monday of the month.
Here's the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81417669510?pwd=Y2dicTF5WEFBOXNwcm5OTVdFT0xaZz09
The link hasn't changed from our previous meeting time, I just changed it in zoom.
NOTE FOR EVERYONE: I DO NOT GET NOTIFICATIONS OF MESSAGES ON EVENTS. IF YOU NEED TO CONTACT ME FOR ANY REASON, PLEASE SEND ME A DIRECT MESSAGE OR EMAIL!
It's totally okay to not finish the book, so don't even worry about it. It's not okay to be a no-show, so be sure to cancel at least 24 hours before the event.
If you would like to suggest books or vote on books others have suggested, please check out our Goodreads list here: LNB Book Club Suggestions 2023 (0 books) | Goodreads (Updated for 2023! Go vote and add books!)
If you want to know what we've already read, check out the shelf here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/35570196-april?shelf=lnb-book-club-read. If you've voted for any of the books on this list, please remove your vote!

I've been kicking this idea around for a bit, and after some discussion, I decided to give it a trial run.
Have you ever thought about the books you read for school in elementary school or junior high and wondered how they held up? Or did you miss reading some of them altogether? Well, we're going to be reading and discussing them in this group.
For the record, I'm not talking about things you probably read for pleasure (i.e. Harry Potter, Stephen King), or things that verge on high literature (i.e. Steinbeck, Shakespeare, Hemmingway), but the narrow band of children's literature actually written for that age range. My examples include The Giver, Hatchet, or Island of the Blue Dolphins. All those were Newbery award winners, and we'll probably draw extensively from this list: Newbery Medal - Wikipedia
I'm going to restrict the range to things written in the 20th century, though if this really gets legs, we can expand. I'm mostly interested in reading some of the things from my youth that I vaguely remember.
This event is co-ed (mostly because Dave was super interested in it and helped work on the concept), and all ages, so feel free to invite whoever may be interested. We'll meet on the second Thursday of the month from January through June to start. We'll meet on zoom, and here's the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81247470036?pwd=bnZCSDJNZ29UUUZTRjBhcTd6KytRdz09.This has been updated after our April meeting was a weird disaster. Somehow, I ended up posting 2 identical events with different links. I have deleted the duplicate events, so you shouldn't have any more issues going forward!
THE BOOKS ARE SELECTED ONE MONTH AHEAD AT THE PRIOR MONTH'S MEETING. So, May's book was selected in April, etc. They will be announced on the event comments on the Thursday night or Friday morning after our meeting!
NB: I don't know how any of these books have aged, and I am not posting any Trigger Warnings, so please be aware these books are across the board and use your discretion.
