What we're about

Every time I go out to a meetup event I am totally surprised at how much fun we have. We laughed, saw new things, met wonderful people, had an amazing lunch and just had a spectacular day. We trekked one way streets, paid parking places, set off security alarms, ran through the rain and traffic. There was no a single part of the day that wasn't the best kind of experience.

Description

We are a diverse group of women. We’re single, married, divorced, or widowed. Some have children, grandchildren, or no children. Some of us work, some volunteer, and some are retired. We are interested in A LOT of different things but share a common interest in meeting other women to share conversation, have fun, make friends, and expand our horizons.

***I am offering ladies (the first 3 people to ask) to ride with me to any meetup I am attending for all my events. I am going anyway and I have room for 3 people in my car so anywhere I go I can bring 3 people with me :-) I will meet in a central location pick you up.

****IMPORTANT****PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING FOR MEMBERSHIP****IMPORTANT****

**A LAST NAME or INITIAL and a RECOGNIZABLE PHOTO is REQUIRED for membership. Please go to your Meetup Settings to add your last name or initial BEFORE you apply. This can only be done by YOU in Meetup Settings. It would also be nice if you would add a short bio so we can get to know you.

**Ladies Just Want to Have Fun relies on its members to suggest and host events. If there is something you want to do but don’t see it offered, you are encouraged to suggest and host an event. I like to do a lot of things, but not everything others like.
This group will use all parts of the Meetup website. Discussions, Questionnaires, texts, messages.
RSVP is very important and, especially, courteous. If you reply please show up. Life happens, but don't leave someone at a venue alone.

**While men can be your guest occasionally, membership is for women only.

When: 7:00 pm

Where: University of St. Thomas,
Cullen Hall
4001 Mt. Vernon
Houston, TX 77006

Paul Brock Band is fronted by one of Ireland’s most celebrated traditional musicians: Paul Brock on button accordion and melodeon. The band also features Tipperary-born Denis Carey, who is an acclaimed pianist, composer and arranger. Other band members include award-winning multi-instrumentalist Brenda Dowling on flute, fiddle and concertina as well as fiddler/dancer/bodhran player Jake James. Jake is a two-time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion.
A beacon of passion and precision, integrity and diversity, Paul Brock Band is steeped in the Irish musical tradition and yet manages to seamlessly and effortlessly blend and fold in elements from American old time and bluegrass, French-Canadian, and other Celtic traditions to create something accessible, recognizable, beautiful, and entirely unique. This ability is exemplified in the band’s album, “Green Grass Blue Grass”, featuring 15-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Skaggs. American music critic Bill Margeson has hailed the collaboration as a “masterpiece”.

Meet before the show at 1:00 pm for an excellent brunch/lunch at Old Railroad Cafe. Selections include hot sandwiches, wraps, salads, omelets, shrimp and grits, desserts, wine, cocktails, beer. Quaint, historical building next door to the theater.

The Railroad Cafe is small and does not take reservations so it is first come first serve. We have been lucky getting to put together several tables so we can all sit together but this may not be the case next time. If we could all get to the restaurant as near or before 1 pm we will have a good or better chance to sit together.

SUMMARY

The inhabitants of the smallest trailer park in Texas (4 doublewides and a shed) are thrown for a loop when they learn that the nearby town of Tugaloo is determined to annex them. The hilarious cast of characters works together to save their community. Joveeta Crumpler takes on the fight while trying to keep her feisty mother, Caprice, out of the bars. Her brother, “Baby” Crumpler is convinced to compete in the womanless beauty pageant with hilarious results. There’s kind-hearted Georgia Dean, who runs Bronco Betty’s Buffeteria; Big Ethel Satterwhite; recent arrival Larken Barken; the curmudgeon Haywood Sloggett; Lomax Tanner and Starla Pudney. These enemies, friends and neighbors realize they’ll all have to work together to defeat the encroaching annexation if they want to survive being swallowed up by “the big guys”. The rollicking mayhem of this comedy will keep audiences laughing. Grab your Stetson and come on over to Doublewide, Texas!
