Segerstrom Center 40th Anniversary Celebration

We will meet in front of Claim Jumper at South Coast Plaza at 2:15. If you want to have lunch beforehand at Claim Jumper, sign up for the separate lunch event at 1:00. Claim Jumper is located near the pedestrian bridge that goes over Bristol street (near Bristol/Anton Blvd.). We'll walk over the bridge to Segerstrom Center.

Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring some bottled water (no glass containers). We can also bring lawn chairs to set up outside so we have seats outside. If you plan to stay for the evening concert, I would bring a lawn chair.

There will be food and beverages available for purchase from their concessions.

## Segerstrom Center is having a party!

Celebrate Segerstrom Center's 40th Anniversary with a free day of live performances, interactive activities, backstage access and a spectacular 1980s-themed birthday bash in Costa Mesa.
Can you believe it’s been 40 years since the Orange County Performing Arts Center had its grand opening in September 1986?

We're celebrating how far the Center has come with a free public party on Sunday, September 13. From 2–6 pm, we’re opening our doors so you can see how the magic happens.

There will be activities for all ages inside all our venues and out on the plaza. Guests will be able to move freely throughout the campus as every venue comes alive with performances and interactive activities. Docents will be on hand for mini tours of campus artwork and backstage areas.

This event will feature the Mater Dei High School band kicking it all off, performances by Orange County School of the Arts ensembles, artmaking and creative activities at the UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art, and other fun activities throughout the campus.

In the concert hall, Pacific Symphony and Philharmonic Society of Orange County youth ensembles will perform, and attendees will have the chance to try out different instruments at the Philharmonic Society’s instrument petting zoo. World-renowned organist David Ball will also be on hand to bring our singular William J. Gillespie pipe organ to life, along with the Christ Cathedral Organ Scholars.
Over at the Judy Morr Theater, the talented students of the Center’s American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School will share drop-in classes, performances and demonstrations, while Samueli Theater will feature Studio D: Arts for All Abilities with showcases and drop-in classes. The Samueli Theater lobby will also be set up as a sensory-friendly retreat.

Outside on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza there will be performances throughout the afternoon by Mariachi Orgullo de UCI, alternating with dance lessons and Pacific Chorale’s Big Sing, inviting everyone to raise their voices together.

The fun doesn’t stop there!

In the evening from 6–8 pm, we’re having a 1980s-themed birthday bash. Hosted by ABC Eyewitness News anchor David Ono, the evening will feature special anniversary moments celebrating the Center’s legacy, a high-energy performance by The M-80s, and conclude with a spectacular drone show lighting up the Orange County sky.
