All things being relative, I consider this a hard, not easy or moderate hike. If you're not if great shape, don't join this hike... It's about 7.5 miles of hills and I try to get it done in under 2:30, if I can...
I did the hike on Friday and it's muddy at the bottom - so, we'll use the fire road climbing up and around to start, taking the Lafayette Ridge Trail up past the barn, snaking around and up until we pass through the gate. From there we’ll go left and take it where it snakes around some nice houses above and below, before it stays mostly flat for some time, gradually climbing up to a juncture where we'll go right. We follow that path immediately to the left, staying flat on a gradual decline before slowly climbing up again to begin a series of rolling hills, ending with two big hill climbs before we climb up one last section to the picnic table at Russel Peak. We’ll take a short break there and then head back the way we came. The exposed hills have mostly dried and cracked, so they can be slippery with loose gravel and sand. Poles are recommended. Bring water and snacks. Dogs are discouraged due to bicycle activity.
