Kayak Lake Hopatcong
Details
Let’s paddle the Northern end of New Jersey’s largest lake. We’ll launch from Lakeview Marina where there are kayak rentals and free parking. We’ll paddle along the shore north to uninhabited Liffey Island where can pull out and explore. Then we’ll continue on at an easy pace for a total of about three to four hours including lunch.
Given the size of this lake, it can get some wind and choppy water and there may be wake from motorboats and jet skis. The waves and bouncy water add to the fun for some, but novice paddlers could feel nervous, so we’ll stay close to shore and stay in the north end where the water is more sheltered.
We will launch at 11am so please arrive early and be ready by then. See the photo below for kayak rental info and make sure you have your boat and gear ready to go by 11am. It’s recommended you bring plenty of water, lunch, hat, eyeglass strap, water shoes, sunscreen and swim trunks or quick dry clothing. Leaving a towel in your car is a good idea. LAFF has extra dry bags and phone cases to lend. Kayaks may sell out on the weekends. You can rent yours at
Afterwards, we can go to the Jefferson Diner for the lesbian tradition of Second Lunch.
This paddle is a gathering of women with a common interest. This not a guided tour and there will be no guides or instructors with us. Your safety is your own responsibility. The lake is patrolled by water officers and life vests must be worn and fastened.
See you on the water! 😎
