About us
Welcome to the LA Fiber Dudes Queer Men's Knitting Group!
Gay and queer men are often taught to hide the parts of themselves that are emotional, creative, or tender. This group exists to reject that. LA Fiber Dudes is a space where you can show up as your full self, whether that means getting deep at our semiannual retreats, celebrating a finished project, or just sitting in the comfortable silence with good people and good yarn. All skill levels welcome; what matters more is that you show up with an open heart.
Our Community
LA Fiber Dudes is an intentional space. We've worked hard to cultivate a group of kind, empathetic, and genuinely supportive people, and we take that seriously. We ask all prospective members to fill out a short questionnaire, not to be gatekeepy, but because the people who get what we’re building self-select in, and the people who don’t, self-select out. It works beautifully.
We do ask that new members attend an in-person meetup within 3 months of joining the Meetup group. If that window passes without a visit, we'll remove you from the group, no hard feelings at all! You're always welcome to sign up again by filling out the form. We’re simply prioritizing an active, present community over a large online roster.
Our community lives on a private Discord server. After you’ve knit with us three times, we’ll add you to the server, where we commiserate about expensive yarn, share projects, and plan our semiannual retreats.
A Note on Teaching
We are not a teaching group, and we don't offer lessons at meetups. That said, some of our members do offer private instruction on an individual basis at rates they determine. If you're interested, we encourage you to reach out to them directly for availability and pricing.
Who We're For
This group is exclusively for those who identify as men, whether gay, bi, queer, or trans. This allows us to offer a safe and intentional space for our community, and as such we're unable to extend membership to those who don’t fall within this community.
