Los Angeles Hacker News Meetup - February

Details

Everything is set to have a great meetup!

Great speakers!

A free book and a free beer :)

Coloft in Santa Monica (920 Santa Monica Blvd.)

Sunday, Feb 9th 2-5pm

A free copy of Predictable Revenue (http://predictablerevenue.com/) from Aaron Ross (he managed the sales team that grew salesforce.com to $100MM!!) to the first 50 folks at the meetup. Those that take a copy should be committing to reading, with the intention of discussing it together at the next meetup.

Speakers:

Greg Burns
Lead Engineer, Apogee Electronics- www.apogeedigital.com (http://www.apogeedigital.com/)

At Apogee Greg has developed embedded hardware and software for multiple professional and consumer audio devices. These range from simple 1-2 channel interfaces to 128 channel bandwidth monsters that have been used to record countless Oscar and GRAMMY winning performances. Whether connecting to a new Mac Pro or iPhone Greg has helped create interfaces for high quality, low latency, and bit-perfect audio.

Demystifying USB

USB has long since been the Swiss Army Knife to connect external devices but remains a black box to many. I'll help unwrap the USB protocol from connecting the plug to transferring data. I'll cover device handshakes, Enumeration, sniffing packets, impersonating accessories, and communicating over USB Endpoints. Depending on time I'll try to highlight key differences (and analyze realtime dumps) between Mac, iOS, and Android.

Jason Cooper
Director & Producer of "Kickstarted: The Movie" (www.kickstartedmovie.com (http://www.kickstartedmovie.com/))

Go Fund Yourself: Keys to Successful Crowdfunding and Not F*cking Up Once You Have the Money

Jason Cooper is a producer and director of a documentary feature called "Kickstarted." The doc - which itself was funded on Kickstarter - is all about the crowdfunding revolution. In the year or so of production (the film is slated to be done later this year), we've talked to 100s of crowdfunding success stories and failures. I'll outline the non-obvious keys to success and the easily overlooked elements that inevitably lead to failure. At the center of this is the idea that success and failure hinge on what happens during the campaign - when it's what happens before and after that truly matter the most.

Evan Tann
CEO, Cloudwear - http://cloudwear.com (http://cloudwear.com/)

We're building apps native to wearable devices that blow your mind.

Zero-Latency Augmented Reality: I'll describe how we achieve zero perceived latency in our augmented reality on Google Glass and other devices (iPhone, Android) through a clever combination of techniques: UX, algorithms, compression, A.I. and caching. I'll cover as many as I have time for.
