Lake Villa Day Hiking Meetup 2.0

There are a few different trails at this preserve.
A 2.7-mile gravel loop trail, a portion of this loop is part of the Des Plaines River Trail.
There is also a 1-mile lake loop trail and a
1.2-mile fitness trail.

The preserve and nearby Old School Road each got their name from the now-defunct Bradley School, which stood near the preserve's southeast corner. The school began as a log cabin in 1873.

Large oaks dominate these woodlands that blend with small prairies. This landscape resembles what Lake County looked like when it was first settled. Bluebirds, foxes and screech owls are just a few of the animals living here. Time one of your visits to coincide with the August peak of prairie flowers blooming. You'll be treated to a rainbow of colors, ranging from golden alexanders to purple milkweed.

The preserve's 5.6 miles of gravel and mowed grass trails offer some of the best access to the banks of the Fox River. Trails here wind through colorful sedge meadows, mature oak woodlands, and a variety of other natural habitats. Six scenic overlooks offer magnificent views of the Fox River Valley and of Grassy Lake.

There are three trails that radiate from the Lake Barrington Village Hall.
• The West (Red) trail is about 3 miles (Gravel.
The North (Yellow) trail is about 2.5 miles (Gravel).
• The South (Yellow) trail is about 3.8 miles (Gravel).
