Pavel Klavík: High performance Web App in Clojure
Details
For five years OrgPad has been developing a whiteboard web app in Clojure. OrgPad allows inserting of all kinds of content, including images, videos and other embedded websites. To make things as intuitive and understandable as possible, developers wanted smooth 60 fps physics-based animations. This stretches browsers to their limits and performance optimization becomes very important.
Pavel Klavík will discuss challenges and what he and his colleagues learned along the way. This includes using React, side-stepping React with their own rendering engine, and using web workers to improve layout of nodes.
Pavel Klavík finished his PhD on data and network visualization in 2017 at Charles University in Prague. Then he worked at Google for 1.5 years, on automatic building of knowledge graphs for Search. Since 2019 he has been a founder and CTO of Czech startup OrgPad (https://orgpad.com).
