🥾 Langdale Circular Walk: Pike of Blisco, Great Knott & Crinkle Crags

Join us for a stunning and challenging circular hike in the heart of the Lake District! This classic route starts and ends at the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, taking in some of the best views in the Langdale Valley.

🚶 Distance: Approx. 9 miles (14.5 km)
⛰️ Ascent: Around 900m
🥾 Grade: Strenuous – suitable for experienced walkers with a good level of fitness

Route Overview:

We’ll begin our walk at the Old Dungeon Ghyll, heading west to tackle the steep ascent up Pike of Blisco (705m), which offers fantastic views over Langdale and beyond. From there, we’ll make our way along the ridge to Great Knott, a quieter but scenic spot, before continuing on to the dramatic and rugged Crinkle Crags.

This section offers some scrambling opportunities (optional), and includes the famous “Bad Step” – but don’t worry, there’s a safe path to bypass it if you prefer. After enjoying the incredible panoramic views from the top, we’ll begin our descent back down the valley to the Old Dungeon Ghyll for a well-earned rest or a pint.

What to Bring:
• Sturdy walking boots
• Waterproofs (jacket & trousers – the weather can change quickly!)
• Warm layers
• Packed lunch and snacks
• Plenty of water
• Walking poles (optional but helpful for steep sections)
• Head torch (just in case!)

• This walk includes steep and uneven terrain, exposed ridges, and optional mild scrambling.
• Please assess your fitness and experience level before joining.
• Dogs are welcome if kept under control and are comfortable with mountain terrain.

🍺 Post-walk social: We’ll head into the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel for a drink afterwards – a great place to unwind and share stories from the day.
