Join us for a scenic and sociable walk through some of Lancashireās most picturesque countryside. This circular route begins in the charming village of Downham, nestled at the foot of Pendle Hill. The village was used to film the 1961 movie Whistle Down the Wind and the BBC One TV series Born and Bred.
Weāll set off through fields and quiet lanes to the village of Chatburn, before joining the peaceful banks of the River Ribble and following it to the historic village of Sawley. Here, weāll take a break at the Spread Eagle Inn for a drink and have time to explore the evocative ruins of Sawley Abbey, a former Cistercian monastery with beautiful views across the Ribble Valley.
After our stop, weāll continue on to the quaint Swanside Packhorse Bridge, a hidden gem steeped in history. From there, weāll make our way across Downham Green, soaking up more stunning views, before returning to Downham. Back in the village, weāll have the option to visit the lovely St Leonards Church and finish with a well-earned drink at the Assheton Arms.
