Cockerham & Glasson Dock - 10 miles

Details

Join us for a scenic circular walk starting in the historic village of Cockerham. From here we head west out to the coast, where wide open views stretch across Morecambe Bay.

We’ll follow the shoreline north, passing salt marshes and sea air, until we reach the atmospheric ruins of Cockersand Abbey, once one of the most important monasteries in the North West. After a pause here, we continue up the coast towards Glasson Dock, a charming little port with plenty of character and a rich maritime history.

From Glasson Dock we pick up the Lancaster Canal towpath, enjoying a gentle 1.5-mile stretch alongside the water before crossing the canal and making our way to Thurnham Hall, an impressive 12th-century country estate.

The route then takes us by quiet lanes to St Thomas and St Elizabeth Church, before winding back along paths and tracks to return to Cockerham.

This is a varied walk with a mix of coastal scenery, historic landmarks, and peaceful countryside.
