Dentdale, Deepdale & Whernside - 12 Miles
Details
Join us for a fantastic and varied walk in the Yorkshire Dales, starting with one of the most scenic train journeys in the UK.
We’ll meet at Ribblehead Railway Station in time to catch the 10:37am train. This short but spectacular ride takes us over the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct and through classic Dales scenery to Dent Railway Station — the highest mainline station in England.
From Dent Station, we begin our walk by descending into the beautiful, peaceful valley of Dentdale. Expect classic Dales landscapes: rolling green fields, dry stone walls, and plenty of fresh air. We then continue into the more remote and rugged Deepdale, where the scenery becomes wilder and more dramatic.
From Deepdale, we begin the steady ascent of Whernside, the highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. The climb is rewarding, with increasingly expansive views as we gain height, and a fantastic summit panorama (weather permitting!).
After enjoying the top, we descend back towards Ribblehead, completing a satisfying circular route. We’ll finish with well-earned refreshments at the excellent The Station Inn — a perfect spot to relax and refuel.
