Hike On Lancashire (Formerly Lancashire Young Persons Walking Group) is relatively new to Meetup but we have actually been established for over fifteen years. We offer a variety of walks, social activities and weekends away for people in their 30’s and 40’s and 50's (although we don’t have a strict age limit). We go walking in the local area and beyond on Sundays throughout the year and also on weekday evenings in the summer. Our walks vary in length and difficulty from short evening walks to more challenging hill walking. We aim to offer walks to suit everyone whatever your fitness level. Come along and try it out... everyone is welcome. You might also like to visit our website at.......[ http://www.hikeonlancashire.org.uk](http://www.hikeonlancashire.org.uk)
As we are a ramblers group (although younger than the norm!) and have a different membership policy to some other meet up groups. Come along and join us on a few walks (each walk is £1). If you like it then it is often cheaper to join the Ramblers. This allows you to walk with any ramblers group in the country plus gives you access to a host of other benefits. If you decide you would like to join us just click on the following link which takes you to the ramblers membership page: https://www.ramblers.org.uk/get-involved/become-a-member/join-us.aspx . Please make sure you affiliate yourselves to our group which is ML50.
If you do decide to join us please remember to select 'Hike on Lancashire' as your preferred group (we are part of the Mid Lancashire Area) otherwise you will be assigned to another group based on your postcode. It is important that you select Hike on Lancashire as your preferred group as we do run a number of events such as weekends away and some socials which are exclusive to Hike on Lancashire members.
Ramblers members are not required to pay the £1 fee we charge per walk. There are also a host of other benefits to being a ramblers member including a monthly 'Walk' magazine sent to your home address and a membership card offering up to 15-20% discount at a number of leading outdoor stores including Cotswold Outdoors.
Other information: Are dogs allowed on walks? Normally, yes - but they need to be kept under control. A lot of walks involve walking through fields with either cattle or sheep, and you need to remember the countryside code and that paramount are farmers' rights. Also, other people walking on the fells. If dogs are definitely not permitted (such as on a number of routes in the Trough of Bowland) this will be indicated. We cannot advertise for every walk if it suitable for dogs (as each dog differs). That depends on you knowing your four legged friend, the terrain, and being confident they can manage.
We look forward to meeting you soon!

Belmont and Winter Hill Circular (11-mile strenuous walk)
Car park, Rivington, Off Sheep House Lane, Rivington, Bolton, GBThis 11-mile relatively-strenuous walk takes us from the village of Belmont up to the TV mast on Winter Hill, we'll cross the moors taking in Two Lads and the Pigeon Tower before heading back up to Winter Hill and back down to Belmont via the Blue Lagoon.
Please note that this walk is likely to be very wet and boggy and has 2 steep hills which take us up Winter Hill.
Walk Leader: RobynPlease note that we restrict the number of places available on Meet-up as (unlike other Meet-up groups) we have a significant number of Ramblers who attend our walks and we ask them not to register as attending via this app. We would, therefore, respectfully request that you do not reserve a place on any walk unless you are sure that you will attend.
Alternatively, why not join us and be a part of the Ramblers for a small annual subscription? Membership guarantees a place on all 'Hike on Lancashire' walks and ensures priority access to events organised by the Group. You can also walk with any other Ramblers Group across the UK.
Annual subscriptions go toward maintaining paths and allow the RA to campaign for improved access to the countryside. You will also receive the monthly 'Walk' magazine and a 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoors.

Chatburn and Downham Super Six Walk (6 mile easy walk)
Chatburn library, Clitheroe, GBWant to get into walking? Why not join us in our annual “Super Six” campaign of easy post Christmas and New Year walks specifically aimed at encouraging people who wish to give walking in the Lancashire countryside a try.
We guarantee a warm welcome, a smattering of humour and the likelihood of some mud so please ensure you wear suitable footwear and bring a waterproof jacket.
We set out from the village of Chatburn which sits at the foot of Pendle Hill. After making our way across some beautiful countryside we will arrive at the picturesque village of Downham for a short lunch by break. After leaving Downham we make our way to an ancient 16th century pack horse bridge which is a great spot for photographs, then back to Chatburn for a well earned coffee or beer in the local pub.The walk may be a little muddy in places given it is January so please wear either walking boots or an old pair of trainers. No dogs.
Meet at Chatburn Library - BB7 4AS. There is a free public car park and street parking available.

The Whinfell Ridge and the ‘Other’ Borrowdale (8.6 miles moderate walk)
Huck’s Bridge, A6, Kendal, GBStarting above Huck’s Bridge on the Shap Road from Kendal (the A6), this walk goes along what Wainwright calls ‘the Whinfell Ridge’ over Ashstead Fell and Mabbin Crag to Whinfell Common and the Whinfell Beacon (471m). Fromthere it descends into the Borrowdale valley and returns to the A6 through it, along both the north and south banks of Borrow Beck because part of the bridleway along the north bank vanished in a recent landslip!. This Borrowdale valley links the Lake District National Park to the Yorkshire Dales National Park extended in 2017 so that the two parks meet, and sees far fewer walkers than the popular parts of either Park.
