Hike On Lancashire (Formerly Lancashire Young Persons Walking Group) is relatively new to Meetup but we have actually been established for over fifteen years. We offer a variety of walks, social activities and weekends away for people in their 30’s and 40’s and 50's (although we don’t have a strict age limit). We go walking in the local area and beyond on Sundays throughout the year and also on weekday evenings in the summer. Our walks vary in length and difficulty from short evening walks to more challenging hill walking. We aim to offer walks to suit everyone whatever your fitness level. Come along and try it out... everyone is welcome. You might also like to visit our website at.......[ http://www.hikeonlancashire.org.uk](http://www.hikeonlancashire.org.uk)
As we are a ramblers group (although younger than the norm!) and have a different membership policy to some other meet up groups. Come along and join us on a few walks (each walk is £1). If you like it then it is often cheaper to join the Ramblers. This allows you to walk with any ramblers group in the country plus gives you access to a host of other benefits. If you decide you would like to join us just click on the following link which takes you to the ramblers membership page: https://www.ramblers.org.uk/get-involved/become-a-member/join-us.aspx . Please make sure you affiliate yourselves to our group which is ML50.
If you do decide to join us please remember to select 'Hike on Lancashire' as your preferred group (we are part of the Mid Lancashire Area) otherwise you will be assigned to another group based on your postcode. It is important that you select Hike on Lancashire as your preferred group as we do run a number of events such as weekends away and some socials which are exclusive to Hike on Lancashire members.
Ramblers members are not required to pay the £1 fee we charge per walk. There are also a host of other benefits to being a ramblers member including a monthly 'Walk' magazine sent to your home address and a membership card offering up to 15-20% discount at a number of leading outdoor stores including Cotswold Outdoors.
Other information: Are dogs allowed on walks? Normally, yes - but they need to be kept under control. A lot of walks involve walking through fields with either cattle or sheep, and you need to remember the countryside code and that paramount are farmers' rights. Also, other people walking on the fells. If dogs are definitely not permitted (such as on a number of routes in the Trough of Bowland) this will be indicated. We cannot advertise for every walk if it suitable for dogs (as each dog differs). That depends on you knowing your four legged friend, the terrain, and being confident they can manage.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Bolton Abbey, River Wharfe, Simon’s Seat& Valley of Desolation: 12-mile moderateBolton Abbey main visitors car park, BD23 6EX£2.00
We meet at the main car park for Bolton Abbey at 10.15. After a short walk through the village, we will stop to explore the Abbey for 5-10 minutes. Should you be delayed, or not wish to visit the Abbey ruins, then please meet us at the Abbey no later than 10.40 (and preferably let me know in advance!).
We will then walk approximately 5 miles on the Dales Way along the banks of River Wharfe, passing The Strid (a deadly short stretch of water with treacherous under-currents) and passing, via Barden Bridge, to Howgill. After a break for lunch, we’ll rise sharply up Barden Fell to reach Simon’s Seat (485 metres [1,591 ft]), with its spectacular millstone grit formations, where we shall enjoy the panoramic views of the Yorkshire Dales. After a short break, we take a more gradual route for our descent, passing down through the Valley of Desolation, with an optional visit to waterfall. Back down close to river level, we pass above the Eastern bank of the River Wharfe before crossing back to Bolton Abbey and returning to our cars.Should the weather be inclement, we’ll follow a lower-level route, returning along the eastern bank of the river rather than rising up to Simon’s Seat.
Sorry, no dogs (dogs are not allowed on Barden Fell / Barden Moor). Please note that Bolton Abbey Car Park charge is £15 per day (online or on arrival at the car park), or £12.50 if booked online at least a day beforehand.
Please note charge is £15 per day (online or on arrival at the car park), or £12.50 if booked online at least a day beforehand. Car sharing is therefore strongly recommended!!
Walk Leader: Chris Sutton
Please note that we restrict the number of places available to Meetup as, unlike other groups, we have a substantial number of Ramblers Members who also attend our walks and who are not required to book as attending the walk via this app. The suggested donation for non-Ramblers members to £2 to cover meet-up costs. It is still excellent value for an organised walk, and day out with like-minded people.
Or why not join us and be part of the Ramblers https://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/group-finder/areas/mid-lancashire/groups/hike-on-lancashire.aspx . Once a member, discounts of up to 15% are also available at a number of outdoor shops including Cotswolds outdoors.
