A very scenic linear walk from Newhey Tram stop to Littleborough via Blackstone Edge on the Greater Manchester Ring Way. We will catch the 10:11 train from Littleborough to Rochdale where we change to the tram for the short journey to Newhey. From Newhey, we ascend the Piethorne Valley passing the chain of reservoirs with panoramic views. We then cross the moorland to Windy Hill where we cross the M62 on the high level footbridge. From the bridge we ascend to Blackstone Edge for more views and then descend towards Hollingworth Lake. From the lake we then join the canal for the return to Littleborough and post walk refreshments. There will be wet and muddy conditions on the higher ground so walking boots are essential.
Please endeavour to be on time for 10am as we are catching the train and cannot wait. There are ticket barriers at Rochdale station. Train fare is £2.20 and tram fare is £1.40.
The suggested donation for non-Ramblers Association (RA) members is £2 to cover Meet-up costs.
Please note that we restrict the number of places available on Meet-up as (unlike other Meet-up groups) we have a significant number of Ramblers who attend our walks and who are not required to book as attending via this app. We would, therefore, respectfully request that you do not reserve a place on any walk unless you are sure that you will attend.
Alternatively, why not join us and be a part of the Ramblers for a small annual subscription? Membership guarantees a place on all 'Hike on Lancashire' walks and ensures priority access to events organised by the Group. You can also walk with any other Ramblers Group across the UK.
Annual subscriptions go toward maintaining paths and allow the RA to campaign for improved access to the countryside. You will also receive the monthly 'Walk' magazine and a 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoors.
