Lancaster County Meetup Group FAQ

Does it cost anything to join this meetup?

At this point, no. does charge us a fee to sue this web site to organize these events (and find all you crazy people) so I do ask folks to donate $1 to our "Tip Jar" at meetups if they find value in the group to cover that cost which is about $180 annually. Anything we collect above and beyond that amount annually will be funneled back to the group for other group needs.

Now before you start showing up at my house with pitchforks and such, (and pitchforks are readily accessible here in the county so it is something I probably should be genuinely concerned about) this is a strictly voluntary donation. So to put things in perspective, you can either fill up with 1/4 of a gallon of gas or buy 1/8 of a cup of Starbucks mocha-frappa-whatever, or come out and meet cool photographers like us.

Do I have to be an experienced photographer to join this group?

Absolutely not. We have a wide range of members in terms of experience level that come out to any given event. We have rank amateurs to actual honest-to-goodness professionals in the group. Beginners be warned though, after attending several meetings YOU WILL NO LONGER BE A BEGINNER! You will have learned so much as one of our padawan learners that you will have moved up in rank to Photo-Jedi. In all seriousness, we love sharing knowledge here, so all are welcome.

What's a Photowalk?

A photowalk is an excuse for me to get out of my house and away from my three small children. More specifically, a photowalk is when we pick a place we want to photograph and kind of en masse.... well... walk around and take photos of stuff. I wish it was a more complicated explanation than that, but alas... Anyway, we usually get together afterward for a bite and have a little photo chit chat as well.

Do you have a regular meetup time?

Yes! We meet the first Thursday of every month, so block off your calendars today!

Do you only meet in Lancaster County?

At this point, yes. We're open to taking field trips, but my vision for this group was to keep the group local so local folks with similar interests could get together and talk photography without having to travel too far. That being said, if there's something super cool to shoot in Philadelphia, and you're willing to drive, I'm there.

Is there an age limit for this group?

Yes. You must be 18 years of age or older to participate in this group on a regular basis. While we try to keep everything we do family-friendly as to be welcoming to a wide range of people as possible, at this time the group is for adults only. Every once in awhile we may designate a "family" event and bringing your children along on appropriate photowalks when you're in a pinch every now and again is okay, but this group was designed as a group specifically for adults. In particular, the Thursday night meetups, while family-friendly, are not designed for kids.

Hey, I just attended yet another AWESOME meetup and took some great photos. Can I share them with the group?

Absolutely, and let me just say that I admire your enthusiasm. You can either post them to the photos area in the meetup site here, or you can join our companion Flickr group and post them there.

I'm addicted to Facebook. Is there a way you can further foster my debilitating obsssion?

No problem. Just "like" our page on Facebook.

I'm super smart and have a great idea for a meetup. What do I do?
Post your idea to the "ideas" section. Let us know if you would also like to organize it, we're always looking for volunteers. You can have as little or as much ownership of the event as you want. Totally up to you.
