Lingo - Language Exchange at Multicultural Hub
This event is for all learners and native speakers of English, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean and Japanese! To attend you need to be actively learning one of the languages, this is a language exchange not just a mingle. We highly encourage people who are taking language classes/ self-study and want to practice some of the vocabulary or grammar they are learning. This is a great way to convert your book knowledge into speaking and listening proficiency. You will be split into three tables where you will be introduced to speakers of the language you're learning, giving you the opportunity to practise, make some friends and feel more a part of the community in Melbourne! Make sure to follow updates on the the Language Connection Facebook group. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/207085169338950/) When: Thursdays, 6.00 – 8.00 pm Where: Multicultural Hub, 506 Elizabeth Street (Opposite Queen Victoria Market), Melbourne Entry: $5 for casual users and free for members What you get: A great opportunity to make new friends and practise your foreign language. Food and drink are also provided Atmosphere: Friendly, welcoming, informal ~FAQ~ Q: My native language isn't English, Korean, Japanese or Chinese, can I still come? A: The group is made up of people who are highly proficient or native in one of the languages, and learning the other. If you aren't proficient in any, then please don't attend. If for example your first language is French, but you also speak English very well, and you are learning Japanese, then you can attend. Q: How good do I have to be at my second language? A: You should have some basic recognition of the vocabulary or grammar of the language. If you are in a class, or have textbooks, or can introduce yourself in the language, that's okay. We don't want people who have never learnt a word before. We hope to attract serious language learners who are putting in a lot of effort to their language learning every week. Q: Can I turn up late? Can I leave early? A: Yup! The event is casual and you are welcome to arrive and leave when you like, though we recommend arriving early to find a good seat. Q: Are you teachers? Is this a formal class? A: Nope! We are all volunteers and language learners. Some of us may coincidentally be teachers but we really don't come to teach - we come to talk, laugh and make friends! Q: Where are you guys? I'm not able to read the information on the event page about the address and I don't know how to use google maps! A: If you don't know how to read basic information and or use google maps then please don't attend the event, we are sure that there are plenty of other groups out there that would suit you better. What we're about

Language Connection is a nonprofit organisation that empowers language learners to improve their proficiency, make new friends and engage with the community. We have a big focus on language learning, so we expect participants will help others learn their second language, not just treat it as a private class.

In Melbourne, we meet twice weekly @ 506 Elizabeth St (The Multicultural Hub)

• Thursdays: 6pm - 8pm ($5 entry fee includes drinks and snacks)

• Saturdays: 2pm - 4pm ($5 entry fee includes drinks and snacks)

Our mission is to connect people through language.

Please come to our events if you are one of the following:

• Native speakers of English learning Korean, Japanese or Chinese seriously (have to be above absolute beginner)

• Native speakers of Chinese, Japanese or Korean learning English

We have a big focus on language learning and have created a great atmosphere for enthusiastic langauge learners to put their book learning into practice with real conversations with native speakers.
